Participating in sports was such a positive experience that both of my daughters became physical education teachers.

Our two girls are grown and married now, but they started playing on girls’ sports teams in kindergarten. By the time they were in high school, they had settled into track, basketball, cross country and lacrosse.

Participating in sports was such a positive experience that both of my daughters became physical education teachers. The older daughter also coached high school girls’ track, and the younger daughter coached high school girls’ lacrosse for about ten years.

It would have been disheartening for them to have boys on their teams and leagues and risk losing out to boys from their inherent advantage due to height, body mass, overall greater strength and lung capacity.

As a parent, I would have very unhappy with our girls sharing a locker room with males. In all likelihood, we would not have let them participate if they were forced to undress and dress in front of boys.
