Alice Cooper is not famous for following societal expectations. In fact, he’s a rock legend for breaking them. His gothic makeup and crazy stage antics earned him the title “Godfather of Shock Rock.”
Anyone familiar with Cooper’s wildest stage moments might wonder—is it even possible to cancel someone like him? And if so, what could it possibly take?
We finally have our answer.
The cancel mob is coming after Alice Cooper for questioning so-called “gender-affirming care” for minors. In an interview with Stereogum, Cooper shared that he believes transgenderism is real, but also worries that some misguided people, especially children, might be getting swept up in the cultural moment:
“I’m understanding that there are cases of transgender, but I’m afraid that it’s also a fad, and I’m afraid there’s a lot of people claiming to be this just because they want to be that.
“I find it wrong when you’ve got a six-year-old kid who has no idea. He just wants to play, and you’re confusing him telling him, ‘Yeah, you’re a boy, but you could be a girl if you want to be.’ I think that’s so confusing to a kid. It’s even confusing to a teenager.”
Progressive activists jumped on his comments, labeling them as “anti-trans,” and less than a week later, Cooper was dropped by the makeup brand Vampyre Cosmetics.
Fans were furious. Vampyre Cosmetics ended up deleting its X account (formerly known as Twitter) due to the backlash:
Alice Cooper has no plans to apologize for his opinions or censor himself. In the same interview, he sounded off on “woke” ideology and political correctness run amok:
“The whole woke thing … Nobody can answer this question. Maybe you can. Who’s making the rules? Is there a building somewhere in New York where people sit down every day and say, ‘Okay, we can’t say mother now. We have to say birthing person. Get that out on the wire right now’? Who is this person that’s making these rules?
“It’s getting to the point now where it’s laughable. If anybody was trying to make a point on this thing, they turned it into a huge comedy.”
One thing is for sure—from Ne-Yo to Alice Cooper, asking award-winning musicians their official positions on woke gender ideology seems to be the new fad. It’s refreshing to see there are still a few public figures who have the courage to speak openly and honestly, regardless of what the cancel mob threatens to do.
Alice Cooper rejecting progressive orthodoxy might be the most metal thing he’s done yet.
Let Vampyre Cosmetics know you stand with freedom of speech and against their acquiescence to the woke cancel culture mob.
