In December of 2022, near Christmas, I had a much-needed macular hole surgery in my right eye. I thought my military insurance–TriCare–would pay for three-quarters of it [but] it didn’t. I received a nasty surprise when the bill finally showed up 4 months later and out of almost $3,000.00 for the one eye, the insurance had only paid $800.00.

I was not prepared for the staggering news; I’ve not dealt with insurance before…or the lack of transparency on the part of the medical folk and now I need another surgery on my left eye, to fix that macular hole.
